Clinical Trial: Do SGAs Improve Identification of the CTM

Study Status: Recruiting
Recruit Status: Recruiting
Study Type: Observational

Official Title: Does the Insertion of a Supraglottic Airway Device Improve a Clinicans Ability to Correctly Identify the Cricothyroid Membrane?

Brief Summary: Prospective, observational, non-interventional study that will examine if the insertion of a Supraglottic airway will increase accuracy of identifying the cricothyroid membrane

Detailed Summary: Patients consented, meeting inclusion criteria are assessed by clinicians under GA with and without a supraglottic airway in situ. The accuracy of CTM identification by palpation is assessed using ultrasound.
Sponsor: The Rotunda Hospital

Current Primary Outcome: accurate identification of the cricothyroid membrane [ Time Frame: 8 weeks ]

accuracy of palpation of the CTM, measured as either successful identification or unsucessful (binary outcome) as well as distance from the border of the CTM in millimeters

Original Primary Outcome: Same as current
